Paillasson de Pomme de Terre/French Potato Cake

If you are a follower of my space, you might have noticed that am posting different French dishes in alphabetic order for this month's long blogging marathon. Today's alphabet is 'P' and am sharing an easy breezy French style of pan fried potato cake. Not to get confused with galettes de pomme de terre, an another crispy potato cake. Actually Pomme de terre in French means Potato, we learn this vegetable name very easily even if you dont speak French. Yes French people's staple food is Potatoes, obviously variety of potato based dishes exists in French cuisine, and still many more dishes are yet to try in my kitchen. Today's post is one of the traditional dish which is quite famous in Lyon. A popular city of gourmands, Lyon is famous for Bugnes, salads and many more delicious dishes etc. This potato cake are very easy to make, no need of eggs or flour. Just grated potatoes when spiced with pepper powder, salt and herbs makes this ultimate cakes.

This dish is completely egg-free, obviously a prefect meal for vegetarian lovers to serve along with some salads for lunch or else to enjoy this cakes as a starter with any sauces. The potato starch from the grated potatoes helps a lot to bind and shape this potato cakes. With less efforts, you can dish out this Paillasson de Pomme de terre quickly, trust me this tiny cakes are seriously very addictive and its was a big hit among my kids. We had it for our lunch along with some cucumber slices and steamed french beans, we just loved it. If you want to please your kids with these potato cake, dont hesitate a second to give a try.

Paillasson de Pomme de Terre, French potato cake, Potato Cakes

5nos Potatoes (peeled)
Oil
Salt
Pepper powder
Fresh parsley leaves (chopped)
A pinch Nutmeg powder

Pat dry the potatoes with a towel and grate them.

Now take the grated potatoes, salt, pepper powder, chopped parsley leaves, nutmeg powder in a bowl.

Mix well, meanwhile heat enough oil in a pan for pan frying.

Drop enough grated potatoes to hot oil and shape them as  much as latkes, cook in simmer until they turns golden brown.

Flip the cake and cook the other side.

Either you can make a single cake or else small cakes as like i did.

Continue the same process and serve warm.
